Reproductive and Attributive prefixes (எண்ணின் முன்னோடுகள்) Tamil has a numeric prefix for each number from 1 to 9, which can be added to the words for the powers of ten (ten, hundred, thousand, etc.) to form multiples of them.

  1 - ஒரு , ஓர் . Example:ஒரு நூறு, ஓராயிரம்

  2 - இரு , ஈர் . Example: இரு மலர்கள் (2 flowers) , ஈராயிரம் (2 thousand)

  3 - மு , மூ. Example: முன்னூறு (மூன்று நூறு) , மூவுலகம்( மூன்று உலகம்)

  4 - நான் , நா

  5 - ஐ

  6 - அறு

  7 - எழு

  8 - எண்

  9 - தொ + the unvoiced consonant of the following consonant. Example: தொன்னூறு (90), தொள்ளாயிரம்(900).

Transcribing fractions (பின்னம் எழுத்தல்)

You can transcribe any fraction, by affixing -இல் (-il) after the denominator followed by the numerator.
eg: 1/10 = பத்தில் ஒரு பங்கு
3/12 = பன்னிரெண்டில் மூன்று பங்கு .
